I love going to the dentist. Even when I was a little kid, I loved going to the dentist. I'm kind of proud of this fact.
Well, today I have a dentist appointment, and I'm nervous for some reason. I think it's because I haven't gone to the dentist for almost 2 years because we didn't have dental insurance, and I'm afraid of what they're going to say.
I'm not sure what I'm expecting. In my mind, the hygienist approached, inspects my teeth, and then clucks her tongue disapprovingly and says, "You must be one of those people who doesn't like going to the dentist."
Heartbroken! Humiliated!
But then, why do I need the dentist to validate my worth? I think it's because in my mind, the status of my teeth is peculiarly tied to my socioeconomic identity -- is that unusual?
Regardless, wish me luck...I'm going to go pick out my outfit now...

thats so funny!! I went to the dentist today too... a visit that was about 6 months overdue! I was dreading it too!! Fearing they'd tell me I'd gotten gingivitis and all my teeth were going to fall out. Us and our overactive imaginations, huh? Luckily that did not happen. I left the denist with a big smile and all my teeth in tact.
Hi Megan! haha, it is so funny to read your post because I am in dental hygiene school, and see patients all the time! haha. I'm also graduating in a week, and it's just so funny to hear the appointment from the patient's side of things haha. I can't imagine clucking my tongue disapprovingly at someone haha. You are so funny! I love the dentist office too, and I hope your visit went good!
And don't worry to your friend, your teeth won't fall out over gingivitis, only periodontitis left untreated. But you and her both don't have that ;) haha.
Bye!
Love Amy Weston :)
Oh I so understand! My dad is a dentist, so I feel like I have to have perfect teeth. And being that working for him I have seen some really nasty mouths in some really nasty people (many of whom were very unproductive), I associate good mouth with being a good. I had a gum infection last month because I was on antibiotics, and I felt like I was a horrible person!
I don't like being lectured about not flossing. As if it's any of their business. Hopefully it wasn't too traumatic, and hopefully you got an awesome new toothbrush.
